Vulnerability Assessments encompass a broad range of elements. When people hear the term Vulnerability Assessment, they think of testing the Internet-facing connection for weaknesses (a Penetration Test). While this is an important element, it barely scratches the surface of what is truly needed to determine your Security Posture. Some of the other important elements to consider are:
- LAN/WAN design
- Alternative system penetration points
- System specific vulnerabilities
- User access and activities
- Non-IT elements
Vulnerability Assessments not only provide a good baseline, they are also an excellent way of tracking your security efforts over time.
